Summer Activities in Portage
Splash Island Waterpark
Take a wild ride down our giant waterslides the “Splash Attack” or “Funnel Tunnel”. Younger children may wish to try the kiddy slide “Bubble Gum Run” and a fun spray area. There are aesthetic fountains and mini geysers, a relaxing bubbler bench situated near a miniature waterfall all surrounded by the natural beauty of Island Park. The water park also features three 25 meter swimming lanes, a lazy river, decorative non-slip decking and a zero-depth beach-like entry.

Portage Golf Club
The golf course was built on a site that was a combination pasture and rubbish dump. The land was littered with scrap iron and was bisected by two narrow sloughs containing 5-6 foot cattails. There were few trees on the course and the club founders planted hundreds of trees on the course to divide the fairways.

The Island
Considered by many to be the gem of our region, The Island was created by an oxbow lake that was once part of the Assiniboine River, setting the stage for one of the most picturesque recreation spaces you’ll ever visit. With tennis courts, a disc golf course, a fantastic playground, and outdoor bandstand for public use, the park also offers sheltered and open picnic areas in addition to some of the destination attractions that entice visitors from far and wide.

Crescent Lake Community Walkway
The Community Walkway is a 2.4 meter wide, 5.3km paved path along Crescent Lake. It features benches and reference/story points to sites of the past and heritage properties along the lake and can be used for walks, running, biking, rollerblading, etc. It has several access points along the lake as well as wheelchair accessible entry points.

Discover one of Canada’s largest urban nature parks. The looped, one km paved Sagimay Nature Trail takes you through forest and meadow to the Eve Werier Memorial Pond. A six-km system of woodchip trails radiate from the Sagimay Trail.

Birds Hill Provincial Park – 24kms northeast of Winnipeg on Highway #59
Featuring hills and ridges formed by ancient glaciers, this 35 square kilometer/22 square mile Park has a lake, oak and aspen forests, native prairie wildflowers, deer, waterfowl and songbirds. Facilities include camping, swimming, picnic sites, a riding stable, a restaurant, a beach concession and a convenience store. There are 30km/18.5 miles of trails for walking and cross-country skiing and 7.2kms/4.5 miles of paved bicycle and roller blading trails.

Northgate Dauphin Trail System – The main trailhead area is situated on the border of the national park, only seven minutes south of the City of Dauphin, on Highway 10
Northgate Dauphin is a 26-km system of stacked loop, multi-use trails featuring sections for mountain bikers, hiking, trail running, and areas to gather and take in the scenery of Riding Mountain National Park’s beautiful “North Escarpment”.

Brandon Hills Wildlife Management Area – 10km south on 17th Street East, Brandon
This area is home to a variety of plant and animal species and offers the perfect setting for recreational activities such as hiking, cross-country skiing, cycling and bird watching. The trails are made up of loops ranging from 2.5km to 7.5km. The Brandon Hills is located 10 kilometres south of Brandon on Highway 10, three kilometres east on Beresford Road and one kilometre south.

Ice Fishing
Delta beach, situated in Manitoba’s Central Region on the south shore of Lake Manitoba is a multi-species fishery. Common species that activively roam these waters during the winter months include walleye, northern pike, tullibee, and burbot. Located 26km north of Portage la Prairie at the end of Hwy 240 off the Trans-Canada Hwy is Delta Beach.

Club Snow Inc. (Snowmobile Club)
Weather and trail conditions permitting, Club Snow members meet at Days Inn on Saturdays and Sundays to ride the local trails. The riders usually leave about 10:00AM but often meet earlier for coffee or breakfast before the ride. All that is required for the ride is a valid snow pass on your snowmobile. The club also meets on the first and third Tuesday of the month from September to May at Days Inn at 7:30PM. Anyone is welcome to join us on our ides or to attend our meetings. With seven hectares of skiable area, the Park includes 10 ski runs, a quad chairlift and 2 tow ropes. The Terrain Park offers something for all levels and abilities from beginner to extreme advanced. The Terrain Park features the following: jumps, tabletops 20 foot – 40 foot – 60 foot, hips, 30 foot down flat down rail, battleship rail, C rail, 30 foot, 20 foot and 10 foot rails and boxes. The Club d’escalade de Saint-Boniface (CESB) Ice Climbing Tower – 141 Messager Street, Winnipeg
Welcome to Winnipeg’s free-standing ice-climbing tower-a monolithic beast that springs skyward from a river bank in the city’s French Quarter every winter. The local tower was North America’s original free-standing ice-climbing tower when it first opened in 1996. Since then, other towers have sprung up every winter around the continent. In Winnipeg, as soon as the temperature drops, the free standing ice-climbing tower is flooded like a vertical hockey rink by the Club d’escalade Saint-Boniface (the Saint Boniface Section of the Alpine Club of Canada).
