On behalf of the Assiniboine Community College Students’ Association (ACCSA), I would like to welcome you all to Assiniboine Community College (ACC) for the 2021-2022 school year. I hope you all had a wonderful summer break and found plenty of time to relax and enjoy yourselves.
The start of the fall semester offers a fresh start. A new opportunity to engage with new instructors, to confront new courses and to challenge new ideas and perspectives. It is a time full of possibilities, and a chance to bring your sense of discovery and intellectual curiosity to the academic experience.
The Executive Team – Nathan, Alexis and I have been hard at work this summer to make this year a great one. As the fall term gets underway, I hope you will take advantage of the many opportunities that we offer here at the Students’ Association. We offer a variety of different services, such as Health and Dental coverage, the Paw Pass discount program, the U-Pass Program, which allows for unlimited access to public transportation in the City of Brandon. One of my favourite services that the Students’ Association offers is the I.M. Well app, I.M. Well is a mental wellness service hub where students can access the support, they need in a way that works for them, all in one spot. This service is only a download away and can be accessed 24/7.
The Students’ Association will be holding elections for multiple positions within the Council. In my view, one of the great things about the SA is the freedom to develop ideas, and to see them become a reality. Whether that be an event or a club. We are dedicated to helping you attain all the necessary skills and more. I invite you to run for Council. Be a voice within your community.
To the new students. I can tell you that ACC will become “a home away from home” for all of you. ACC is a place where you will meet many new people from different cultures and backgrounds and create life-long friendships. There are students here from all around the world, and this is another element why I think ACC is the best place to be and to learn.
To the graduating students. This will be a time to take the next steps towards your chosen careers, and to explore job opportunities. We know that you will be especially busy, but we hope that you take a little time to contribute to the Students’ Association, as the memories and achievements you take from ACC will last a lifetime.
Thank you and I wish you the very best for a successful fall semester.
Ashley Fordyce, ACCSA President
