2STLGBQ+ Inclusive Environments

Wednesday, January 26, 2022

Thank you to everyone who was able to join us for our 2STLGBQ+ Inclusion and Diversity Training hosted by the ACCSA! If you are just checking out the blog, welcome! My name is Racheal, and I am the 2STLGBQ+ Program Facilitator at SERC Brandon.

I notice that when people see the long acronym, in a form they are not used to, often times in a training setting, it can be intimidating. We all come from different cultures, communities, families, and backgrounds so we may not all have the same understanding of these topics. What I often tell people with this, is don’t avoid the discomfort, don’t be afraid to say when you don’t know something, and be willing to listen. None of these steps come with having all the language and terminology memorized, what’s most important is to create an environment where everyone can show up as their full self.

There is diversity in your classes, on your campus, and in your communities so it is important that no matter who you are, what field you’re in, or where you are that you help to create spaces where people can be respected.

If you are interested more in these topics, please reach out to us at Brandon@serc.mb.ca!
