Press Release, Assiniboine Community College Students’ Association

The nomination period has closed for the by-elections, and the campaign period has started. Voting will take place from December 2nd to December 6th, students will receive a link to vote through their Assiniboine emails.

Here’s a list of candidates and their biographies, to help you get a little more familiar with them before you vote:

Nathanial Bridges, President Candidate

I’m Nathaniel Bridges, a 2nd year Land and Water Management student. In three words, I would describe myself as personable, dedicated, and pragmatic. Over the years at ACC I have been engaged in the student community by starting clubs such as the Environmental Sustainability Club, and organizing events like the Halloween social at Houstans.

In my first year I was elected the Agriculture and Environment Representative, and last spring I was elected as the VP of Governance. I’m very familiar with the operations of the Students’ Association and will effectively accomplish the goals we set out to do.

I will strive to implement effective communication between students and the Students’ Association, improve our sense of community and student engagement, and ameliorate processes to enhance the productivity of future councils.

I would love to hear from all of you, and I look forward to serving you as your next ACCSA president.

Olivia Boyce, President Candidate

Hi, my name is Olivia Boyce. I’m in my first year of Business Administration at ACC. I decided to pursue a post-secondary degree to build on my 16 years of experience working with nonprofits in Manitoba.

I am interested in sustainability, food security, wellness, and culture, and serve on various advisory and working committees in the community. My positions currently include Chair of the Brandon Food Council, member of the Rural and Remote Advisory Committee, ACC Program Advisory Committee and Everyone Eats Brandon and Incredible Edible Route working groups.

Julia Teichroeb, Vice President Governance Candidate

Hi! My name is Julia Teichroeb. I’m attending ACC in the Business Administration program. I have 12 years of experience working in management and HR. I believe that these skills will be vital to my success in this role. As the VP of Governance, I will sit as the Chair on the Financial Oversite Committee, where we review and approve all financial statements. I will also sit on the By-Laws and Policies Committee. I believe my experience in HR will be vital to this position as we start to implement new policies and procedures.

I have been Interim VP for about a month, and in that time I have come to realize the training system in place for ACCSA members is completely reliant on our Executive Director (paid staff member). What this means is that by the time every ACCSA member is trained in their position a good chunk of their term is over. The ACCSA deals with a high turnover, our council is made up completely of current students. Streamlining the training process through a handbook and training videos will allow the ACCSA to become more efficient for years to come.

Patrick Pittet, Vice President Governance Candidate

My goal is to serve the ACC community to the best of my ability. Currently I am in the Business program where I am upgrading courses to move into an advanced diploma program. Over the years I have worked in a variety of settings where I worked in various leadership positions.

My work experience includes working in heavy construction as Crew Forman, Canadian Armed Forces as a Detachment Commander, and Volunteer Fire Department as a Deputy Chief. Working within these organizations allowed me to be both a team member and a leader.

I look forward to working together to build a positive future.

Hailey Tanner, Business Representative Candidate

I’m in my second year of the Business Administration program specializing in accounting. I was always interested in business focused classes while in high school. I graduated with honours and a business education dual diploma from Major Pratt school in Russell, Manitoba. I’m hoping to have a career in business after graduating from ACC.

I have been a part of school councils in both middle school and high school. I am always trying to make positive impacts and changes that benefit the students. I’ve attended all meetings and helped organized fun events. I want to build a sense of community among the students and create more ways to involve everyone.

I’m running for the Business Representative position on the Assiniboine Community College Students’ Association. I will do my best to meet the students’ needs and bring new ideas to the council. I have strong communication skills, which will help when it comes to talking with students to see how the council can improve student life. I’m not afraid to speak up for what I believe in. I want to make positive change for the students.

If elected, I will have the support from administration to ensure that I will put students first and use my voice for them. I promise to always be ready to listen to any concerns or suggestions.
